In-Between # II and # III were painted at the same time and work as a diptych. The background, the underpainting, was vibrant, predominantly red, as to create a drama situation which was to be turned into a black and white meeting each other. They meet in both paintings in very different ways. In # II the transition is more organic and naturally arising. In # III the transition is more intellectual, trying to find a line in between and the refinement of balance between black and white.
