While this depiction is the beauty of the fish in the Caribbean Sea, the artwork also addresses the issues of plastic pollution and ocean acidification. The contrast of the coloring — which is more dramatic than in most foureye butterflyfish I’ve seen — is a reminder of the contrast between what we think of as trash and the end result of this debris being transformed into a thing of beauty.
