This fish is an interpretation of the Atlantic Spadefish that I’ve seen while SCUBA diving in Key Largo, Florida. I took some liberty with its representation by using sticks, strings, and other elements to create the striped area in the back, where one would typically see scales. The white sticks are plungers from a bio-identical hormone tube. This helps keep plastic out of the ocean and other waterways. Additionally, this piece has an adorable face, and I love using the various things I’ve saved or found to create the art. It engages the viewer by having them figure out what it’s made of. I delight in seeing fish in the sea and in recreating them on land.
