The soleus is a muscle in the calf that runs from the knee to the heel, and weaves in cooperation with other muscles in a way that reminded me of this tautly balanced painting. As with all my work, I draw only a few lines, and then repeat those to create a resonant minimalist field in which every mark has to overlap and collaborate with every other mark. The arcing forms in this painting surge and knit together to create a joyous balance.
