These ubiquitous plastic boxes for free magazines and newspapers always appealed to me as sidewalk "accessories." They come in all shapes and colors, and generally hang out together on a street corner. They are like characters in a show, and in this painting they are the center of attention. This is of a corner in Park Slope, Brooklyn, in front of a Housing Works shop.
