In 2013 I began an apprenticeship with the British artist Edward Povey, whose work is been followed by the BBC and has been in galleries in over 10 countries.
I was Edward's Protégé for 5 years, going to his house once or twice a week for 3-8 hour intensive sessions learning skills that took Povey decades to learn; drawing, painting, mural design, business, art history, and theories. During my training I developed several collections. First I explored different skills and styles to learn how to work with paint. I then began my own collection using influences like Francis Bacon, Marlene Dumas, and the abstract expressionists. In 2017 I made a radical shift in an attempt to move a way from using influences so heavily and focused on a collection of works that used a wide range of imagery in an attempt to re-contextualize each type of image: newspaper photography, classical art, advertising, candid photos, and brochures, each one having its own concept, until primarily focusing on juxtaposing old masters with candid photographs of my own.
I've also been commissioned for several murals, one in the renowned Austin restaurant Pieous, and another project in a private home in Dripping Springs. I’ve exhibited in two Austin Studio Tours, and a group show at The Den Gallery. I am currently working on a new collection of work using family photographs as my source material.
